DIFFERENT COLORS

VAMA is a pop-rock band from Romania that plays with many currents, be it music-hall, indie rock, electro or blues. This variety comes from the band members' diversity of musical influences and backgrounds. Tudor Chirilă (voice) is an actor, co-author of a rock or musical opera, he learned the clarinet at music school, a big music lover and is influenced by the music of artists with concept records. Eugen Caminschi (guitar) and Gelu Ionescu (keyboards) have been part of numerous blues projects. Ionescu produced pop, dance or eurodance music. Dan "Prepe" Opriş, the band's bassist, has solid musical training and flirts with glam-pop in terms of songwriting and production, and the band's drummer - Lucian "Clopo" Cioargă - has participated in musical projects that covered pop, blues and classic rock.

This diversity puts the band in difficulty when it comes to staying true to a single style, so VAMA's records are always marked by an interesting dynamic of the set list.

WORD POWER

A particular strength comes from the lyrics that are part of an original style, very easily recognizable, especially in Romania. The problematic and multi-thematic layering of VAMA's lyrics can also be found on the band's latest English-language disc, Better, where Chirilă (the author of VAMA's lyrics) makes a beautiful exercise in style and force of messages.

LIVE AND KICKIN'

Perhaps the band's greatest asset is the strength of their live show. VAMA feels best on stage, the boys are very experienced instrumentalists, and Tudor Chirilă manages to impress the "performance" with his qualities and experience as an actor. The group has been playing in the current formula for ten years, which makes the relations between its members well welded. The heterogeneous composition and different stylistic approaches make VAMA always surprising in its concerts. You can be carried from a classically styled drum solo to an EDM intermezzo, or from a Stones-style guitar riff to a mysterious electro-pop orchestration. You can close your eyes and surrender to a vocoder superimposed on some cosmic sounds, or wake up suddenly to a voice filtered through a megaphone.

EXPRESS YOUR DIFFERENCES

VAMA 2018 is the sum of the experiences and influences of its members who bravely assume the diversity of their musical origins and show it to anyone who is willing to enjoy music that cannot be regimented into any current.
